Holy Watering Festival Aberavon 2023

What an amazing event, full of colour and traditional dress -Sri Kalpaga Vinayakar Temple Wales and the Holy Watering Festival

Despite the skies opening up with wind and heavy rain, the event went ahead. While the weather was damp, spirits of the Sri Kalpaga Vinayakar Temple Wales were not .. they were in high spirits, enjoying the moment of this annual tradition, arriving on the back of an open backed lorry.

While onlookers braved the extreme weather in coats and umbrellas, participants of the event braved the elements with bare tops as if it was a sunny day.

All photos were taken using my Fuji X-H1 coupled with the excellent XF 50-140 f2.8 lens, all I can say is thankfully the weather sealing held up – unlike myself as I got soaked to the skin.

Hopefully next year the great British weather will hold off and give us some good weather so we can enjoy and admire the glorious costumes in all their glory – without getting soaked and hidden by the array of umbrellas.
