Skomer Island July 2024
Been a long time wanting to visit Skomer Island which is based just a mere 15-20 minute boat journey from the mainland, less than one mile!
A visit to Skomer gives you a travel to and from the island, and a 4.5 hour stay on the island – which sounds a lot but once you start walking and admiring the beauty and watch the puffins – it flies past – much like the puffins!
There is the option of doing overnight stays but these come at a cost and the facilities on the island are minimal.
Trying to catch a landing puffin was quite tricky as they literally fly up over the cliff and land – just appearing from nowhere.
You are restricted to the walkways, and rightly so – the puffin dens are fragile and surface bound which means you treat them like eggshells!
I had a wonderful day and will return next year, when it’s bluebell season – and I’ve improved my birds in flight technique as I know not all of my photos are perfect – but I still love them!
As a bonus if you’re lucky you will see other birds, bunnies and a chunky seal lazing on a rib!
